An Introduction to Bedale Seniors Section
The Seniors Section organises competitions and matches, plus the associated socialising, for club members who are 55 or over and retired or semi-retired. The competitions and matches are played during the normal working week, when the course is usually quiet. Many Seniors leave the weekends for those poor souls who have to work! - although, of course, there is no restriction on any Senior member playing at the weekend or, if good enough, playing in the full club teams.
Some Seniors also join in the Rabbits Sections competitions - these are for players with a handicap in the 16-28 range.
The matches are friendlies, played against other clubs in Yorkshire and County Durham - thus giving the opportunity to play on excellent course for the cost of the after match meal. All Seniors, regardless of handicaps, are encouraged to play.
Internal competitions are played every Friday morning, with a draw being made for playing partners. Other competitions run throughout the year with trophies and prizes presented at the annual dinner in December, when we graciously allow our wives/ partners to wine and dine with us!
And what does joining the Seniors cost - well, just £5.00 for the year - over and above the club fees of course!
You can see from the above that being involved in the Seniors is, in a way, an added extra - a reward for being older and retired.
